Transcript of “What People Are Saying About Collaboration with WOW

BILL CULLIFER: Bill Cullifer here on behalf of the professional association World Organization of Webmasters (WOW). I am on the phone with Ann Willer, Professor from Solano College and a WOW education collaborator offering a degree level program for the Web Developer in California. Good morning Ann and thanks for agreeing to this interview.

ANN WILLER: Hi Bill, how are you?

BILL: I’m doing well, thanks Ann. Why collaborate with the WOW organization on web professional education?

ANN: Well, I think it’s really important for any instructor and any institution to have their students be adhering to whatever the standards are in whatever field we’re discussing. In our case it’s web development and WOW represents those standards. And WOW is trying very hard to put together learning objectives for our students that are basically what employers want. So by collaborating with WOW you’re helping to ensure that your student is really doing the very best they can in their field.

BILL: Well, thanks Ann. I appreciate your perspective on that. I’m curious to know, if you’re in the audience and you’re listening to this and you’re from business or industry, or you’re a hiring manager, or you’re a manufacturer or software company selling resources to education, why should you care about this?

ANN: My school, Solano, recently went through an accreditation process and every school in California does that on a certain interval. And it’s becoming increasingly important that each school have SLOs in place for all of their curriculum and all of the classes within the curriculum. Without those SLOs and without the assessments that go with those SLOs, literally you may not pass accreditation.

BILL: Yeah, super. Thank you so much for your time today Ann and of course for the collaboration and for all that you do for the web profession.

ANN: My pleasure. Good to have someone out here leading the way.

BILL: Thanks Ann.
